Patna: BJP leader and deputy chief minister of Bihar Samrat Choudhary is slated to take over as chief minister of the state after Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation to the governor on Tuesday. Kumar has been elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Choudhary (57) was elected as leader of the BJP’s Bihar legislative party during the day, confirming his elevation to the post of chief minister.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for reposing their trust in me by assigning me the responsibility of the #Leader of the #BJP_Bihar_Legislative_Party. This is not merely a post for me, but a sacred opportunity to serve the people of Bihar, to realise their trust and aspirations,” Choudhary said.

“I pledge to live up to the expectations of one and all with complete dedication, commitment, and integrity. Under the able leadership of the country’s esteemed Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and the guidance of the honourable National President Shri @NitinNabin ji, I shall remain ceaselessly committed to taking Bihar to new heights of development, good governance, and prosperity. Your affection, blessings, and support are my greatest strength. Jai Bihar, Jai Bharat!” he added.

Kumar, in his parting message, said that things will go well for Bihar under the NDA.

“You know that on 24 November 2025, an NDA government was formed in the state for the first time. Since then, the rule of law has prevailed in the state, and we have been continuously engaged in developmental work. From the very beginning, the government has worked for the development of all sections of society — whether Hindu, Muslim, upper caste, backward, extremely backward, Dalit, or Mahadalit — work has been done for everyone. Work has been carried out in every sector, be it education, health, roads, electricity, or agriculture. A great deal of work has also been done for women and youth. In these days, the work has been taken even further. For the next five years—that is, from 2025 to 2030—the formation of 7 Nischay-3 has been undertaken. This will lead to even more work, as a result of which Bihar will advance considerably,” the former CM said.

“The Centre is also extending its full cooperation in Bihar’s development. For this, we bow to the honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Bihar will develop even more rapidly and join the ranks of the top states in the country, thereby making a significant contribution to the nation’s progress. We have done a great deal of work for the people of Bihar. For all these days, we have continuously served the people. We had decided that we would now step down from the post of Chief Minister, and therefore, after today’s cabinet meeting, we met the honourable Governor and submitted our resignation. The new government will now look after the affairs here. The new government will have my full cooperation and guidance. Even ahead, a great deal of good work will be done, and Bihar will advance a great deal.I extend my very best thanks to everyone and offer my best wishes,” he added.
