New Delhi: It turned out to be a minor blast, but it sparked fear and panic in the nation’s capital on Friday evening.
The blast took place outside the Israeli embassy in central Delhi, NDTV reported.
There was initial panic as the location of the blast was less than 2 kilometres from Vijaya Chowk, where President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Central ministers and senior government officials had gathered for Beating the Retreat ceremony.
No injuries have been reported so far and the area has been cordoned off.
According to police sources, the explosive — suspected to be IED — had been wrapped in a plastic bag and left on the pavement. After it detonated, windscreens of five cars parked nearby were damaged.
