Bhubaneswar: The day temperature soared to 41.8°C at Titlagarh in Odisha in the last 24 hours amid thunderstorm activity across the state.

Jharsuguda was the second hottest place on Sunday at 40.5°C followed by Bhawanipatna and Balangir at 40.2°C each, Sonepur at 39.9°C and Sambalpur at 39.4°C. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 34.3°C and 33.8°C respectively.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast no large change in the maximum temperature across the state during the next six days. Meanwhile, norwester spell in the state is likely to continue till April 4.

The weather agency has issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and hailstorm and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) for isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Balasore till April 1 morning.

People in these districts have been advised to keep watch on the weather and take shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning strikes and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. “Also harvesting of crops may be regulated judicially and farmers are advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail,” it further said.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph may also prevail occasionally along & off the North Odisha coast on March 31. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough.

During this period, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may also occur in Sundargarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may prevail in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

While there is no orange warning thereafter, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may continue in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam and Gajapati districts during the subsequent 24 hours. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may occur at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada and Nabarangpur on April 2, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada and Nabarangpur on April 3, and Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada and Nabarangpur on April 4.
