Berhampur: A blueprint has been prepared by the National Highway sub-division, Berhampur to check frequent accidents on Taptapani ghat.
“We have prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for this purpose and submitted to the central office of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for final approval,” said Junior Engineer Phagulal Murmu of the NH sub-division. Once the DPR is approved, the tender would be floated, he added.
However, Murmu said they have initiated steps to further widen the ghat road using favour blocks at a cost of Rs 44 lakh. “We have already floated the tender for ghat road widening and the work would start soon,” he said.
The locals have been alleging that the design of the ghat road is faulty. Though the NHAI has declared many U-turns on the ghat road as ‘black spots’, there is no sign board on the road side to caution the drivers, they claimed.
In the latest accident on the Taptapani ghat, a bus carrying OJEE aspirants overturned, injuring many students on Thursday night, as the driver lost control while taking a U-turn.
