Bhubaneswar: Following the state government policy to encourage use of electric vehicles (EVs), the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to extend discount to such vehicles at its parking lots in the city.
As per its decision, the EVs will be provided 40% discount on fees at different parking places. The parking fee discount will be remain in force for all types of EVs for next two years. The parking lot vendors have been issued direction in this regard, TNIE quoted a BMC official as saying.
In order to ensure transparency in parking fee collection, selected vendors will be given POS machines. “The vendors will be imparted training on use of POS machines,” said the official.
Earlier, the BMC had decided to put up display boards mentioning area of parking, rate chart, name and contact number of BMC official for complaint and tender details. It followed complaints from vehicle owners that attendants at BMC parking space were charging fees far more than fixed by the municipal body.
At present, BMC has 74 parking lots, of which 30 have already been auctioned. Tender for the rest 44 parking lots has been floated.
As per BMC’s decision, vendors will be required to display boards mentioning the name of the parking lot, tendering details, area of parking, rate chart besides name and contact number of the zonal deputy commissioners and Traffic ACP for redressal of grievances. The civic body will impose a fine of Rs 1,000 against vendors found violating the guidelines.
As per the new norms, around 10 per cent of the total parking area in Unit I and 5% at other places will be earmarked for parking bicycles. No parking fee will be charged for bicycles anywhere in the city, the official added.
