BMC Seals 4 Eateries For Unhygienic Practices In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Continuing its drive against unhygienic practices by eateries in Odisha capital, BMC sealed at least 4 food joints on Thursday.

The food safety team of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) led by commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange carried out raids on the hotels, kiosks and stalls at KIIT square in Bhubaneswar. The team conducted tests to test the quality of foods, checked sanitation around the outlets and verified their licenses.

After finding violation on different counts, the BMC authorities sealed four eateries and served notices on them. The food joints that were sealed include Burger King, Maa Sarala Sweets, Cafe Odisha and Jayguru Omfed Stall.

Speaking to the media about the raids, Kulange said, “The BMC is serious about hygiene and quality of food in commercial establishments as it concerns public health. During the raid on food stalls, we checked their kitchens, food items, garbage and sanitation systems. Those found not adhering the health guidelines will be penalised as per the norms.”

He also appealed to the people to inform BMC if they come across any food joint selling poor quality products or not following hygienic practices in the city. The BMC has formed five food safety teams to conduct checking the hotels and eateries on regular basis, he added.
