Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sought appropriate action against a large number of teachers who reportedly failed to turned up for the training programme meant for the Census operation.
As per information, BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana has written to Census director Nikhil Pawan Kalyan, seeking permission to proceed with appropriate punishment against 436 teachers, who skipped training for the Census exercise.
The names of teachers were obtained from School and Mass Education department, and they were personally contacted to join the training that had started from March 19 and will run in phases.
The teachers were designated as enumerators and supervisors for Census 2027. However, none of the teachers turned up for the training despite repeated requests, officials said.
“They have committed offence under Section 11(1) of the Census Act, 1948. As per Census Rule 1990 (Section 5(3)), action can be taken against the defaulters,” said the letter from BMC to the Census director.
