Bhubaneswar: A man was found dead inside a toilet of an unreserved bogie of Bhubaneswar-Tirupati Superfast Express at Bhubaneswar railway station on Saturday morning, shortly before its scheduled departure.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Nasim (41), confirmed through a PAN card recovered from the spot.
According to sources, the train, which arrived in Bhubaneswar from Tirupati late on Friday, was moved to the washing track for cleaning this morning. The cleaning staff found the body hanging from the train window with a belt inside the toilet at around 12.30 pm.
The staff immediately alerted senior officials, prompting Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel to rush to the spot. A forensic team was also called in to examine the coach and collect evidence. “Preliminary findings suggest that the youth may have died by suicide using his belt. Further investigation is underway,” said IIC of Bhubaneswar GRP Ashok Kumar Gochhayat.
Police are examining CCTV footage from Bhubaneswar railway station and also missing person complaints from nearby areas.
This is the second such incident reported from the railway station in a fortnight. Body of a young man from Uttar Pradesh was recovered from a toilet in B-3 coach of Bhubaneswar–Delhi Duronto Express on August 16 while the train was stationed at the washing line.
