Sundargarh: The body of a man, who had gone missing since Sunday, was recovered from a canal in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Babulal Dungdung (44).
According to sources, Babulal went to attend a feast with his family at Jamapali village under Rajgangpur police limits on Sunday evening. When the family left the place for home, Babulal said he would join others later. “However, he did not return, and me and my daughter looked for him everywhere but could not find him,” his wife Sara Dungdung told a local news channel.
She filed a missing person’s report at Rajgangpur police station on Monday and police launched a search operation with sniffer dogs.
His body was found in a canal near Dhobapada in Jampali village, and Fire Service team recovered it on Tuesday. Police investigation has revealed another angle about the possible cause of Babulal’s disappearance.
It was alleged that Babulal had misbehaved with a woman, after which her husband hit him. His brother Rajib intervened and took him away from the venue. During the return journey, when Rajib asked what exactly happened, Babulal left and was missing since then, a police officer said.
Babulal’s body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the death. Police have detained several individuals present at the event for questioning.
