Angul: The body of a minor girl, who went missing on Saturday, was found in a drain near her house in Shyamsundarpur village in Odisha’s Angul district on Sunday.
The family members began searching for the girl, aged around ten years, after she went missing. However, they were unable to trace her despite extensive efforts throughout the day and night.
When the search operation was stepped up on Sunday morning, the naked body of the girl was found near the “Bhalu Khai” drain in the area.
Stating that the body had injury marks on the neck, ear, and eye, family members of the girl said she was suspected to have been raped and murdered.
A team from Angul Sadar police station visited the spot and launched an investigation.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further steps will be taken based on the autopsy findings, said a senior police official.
