Bhubaneswar: Bollywood actor Govinda performed alongside Ollywood actor Sivani Sangita at Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening. The actor will perform at Jharpada Melan Padia puja mandap around 8pm with Indian Idol fame Jyotirmayee Nayak also performed.
After his electrifying performance, Govinda said: “A big thank you to everyone for the overwhelming love and warmth. I offer my humble pranam to the sacred land of Odisha and feel truly honoured to be here in Bhubaneswar for Durga Puja. I pray to Maa Durga to shower her divine blessings upon the people of Odisha and bring happiness, peace and prosperity to every home. Jai Jagannath!”
Actor Sivani and Govinda danced to the tunes of popular Bollywood songs from movies featuring Govinda like “mein toh raste se ja raha tha”, “sona kitna sona ha,” among others. Sivani was touched by Govinda’s humble behaviour.
“This year, the pandal at Jharpada Melan Padia has been styled as Jagat Janani Mandir, popularly known as the Subarna Mandir,” Bhagirathi Patajoshi, a member of the puja committee said.
According to Patajoshi, Lord Shiva had commissioned Vishwakarma and Kubera to build this magnificent temple for Goddess Parvati. However, Ravana later performed its consecration and, in return for his services, claimed the temple as Dakshina from Shiva. Thus, the temple created for Parvati came into Ravana’s possession. The 110ft high pandal has been built across 7.5 acres. It houses a 22-ft high idol of Goddess Durga.
