Mumbai: Air travel in recent times has seen extreme turbulence.

Air India’s woes, following the horrific crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, seem to be never-ending. Even IndiGo has faced problems, not necessarily of its own making.

Two domestic IndiGo flights on different routes experienced bizarre incidents over the last three days.

A bomb threat was found in the toilet of a flight from Hyderabad to Mohali on July 5, while a swarm of bees delayed the Surat to Jaipur flight on July 7.

Scary message in toilet on tissue paper

Indigo’s flight 6E-108 from Hyderabad, carrying 220 passengers and five crew members, landed at Mohali International Airport around noon on Saturday. After passengers and crew disembarked, a tissue paper with a frightening message was discovered by cleaning staff in the aircraft’s toilet.

A senior officer associated with airport security said, the message on the paper was “bomb in flight”. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was called up, and after intense search as per protocol, the plane was cleared for its next flight – two hours behind schedule.

Mohali airport police registered an FIR based on the complaint of Indigo’s security manager, under Sections 351, 324 (5), 217, and 3 A (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Airport police have sought a complete list of passengers who travelled on flight 6E-108 on July 5 and sought relevant footage from the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

Investigators believe one of the passengers on board is responsible for the act and are also exploring the possibility of group bookings with only one passenger actually flying.

Stubborn bees at Surat

Fast forward to Monday evening, when departure of a Jaipur-bound plane from Surat International Airport was delayed by an hour as bees swarmed in just moments before take-off, and gathered on the aircraft’s open cargo door.

Airport staff tried to drive the bees away using smoke, but that didn’t work fully. Ground staff then poured and sprayed water on the plane to remove the bees.

All this took nearly an hour, thereby delaying the flight’s departure.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a huge number of bees on the plane.

IndiGo flight from Surat to Jaipur was delayed by over an hour as a swarm of bees sat near the aircraft’s open cargo door. The Airbus A320 aircraft, which was scheduled to take off from Surat at 4.20 pm, eventually left at 5.26 pm.

The plane, scheduled for a 4.20 pm departure, ultimately took off at 5.25 after the situation was brought under control.

“Due to this entire incident, the Indigo flight from Surat to Jaipur took off at 5.26 pm. Passengers were also stranded in the plane for an hour due to these bees. After an hour of waiting, the passengers sitting in the plane also breathed a sigh of relief as they were able to drive away the bees. It is worth mentioning here that this kind of incident is likely to have happened for the first time at Surat Airport,” said officials at the Surat airport.
