Rourkela: In a tragic incident, a minor boy was charred to death after fire broke out at a Durga Puja pandal in Odisha’s Rourkela city on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place at the pandal situated near Telephone Bhawan in Sector-6 of the city in the afternoon when some children were playing there.
Some children were playing inside the pandal when the fire erupted. While many managed to run away and, one of the boys aged around nine years failed to escape and got burnt alive in the fire.
While the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, local authorities have initiated a probe into the mishap.
Locals said tent materials of the Durga Puja pandal were stocked at the site where the children were playing and the fire broke out all of a sudden.
On being informed, fire service personnel rushed to the site, but the boy not be saved.
Additional Superintendent of Police Prabha Sankar Nayak said a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the circumstances that led to the mishap.
