Sambalpur: Hundreds of acres of agriculture land were inundated following a breach in the Sasan Canal of the Hirakud dam near Talab village under Kisinda Tehsil in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Saturday night.
Sources said the people of Talab village informed the district administration following a 10-feet breach in the canal in the night.
Following information, Kisinda Tehsildar and senior officials rushed to the village to take stock of the situation.
On Sunday, the Tehsildar visited the low lying areas of Talab village inundated by the canal water.
Talking to media persons, he said emergency repair of the breach is going on a war-footing.
“For early completion of the repair work, the district administration has asked the authorities of Hirakud Dam not to release water in the canal,” he added.
About 60,000 households of Kisinda Tehsil solely dependent on the Sasan canal water for agriculture. The canal, which originates from the Hirakud dam irrigates 24,280 hectares of land.
