Brown Sugar, Illicit Liquor Seized In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Excise sleuths on Friday seized brown sugar and illicit liquor following separate raids at Haladipadia slum and Salia Sahi here.

Acting on a tip-off, the excise officials raided Keuta Sahi in Haladipadia slum and seized 30 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 3 lakh. Three persons were arrested in connection with the seizure.

The illegal business was reportedly being run at this place for a couple of months.

Similarly, a huge cache of illicit liquor was seized by the officials from Salia Sahi, following which three others were nabbed from the spot.

Police on Thursday had busted an illegal liquor unit in the same area and arrested five persons in this connection.

As many as 30 drums, containing spurious country-made liquor, were recovered from the spot.

The accused persons used to bring spurious and cheap liquor from different places, fill them in bottles of branded liquor and sell those at a higher rate, police sources said.
