Brown Sugar Worth Over Rs 50 Lakh Seized, 2 Arrested In Odisha’s Puri
Puri: Police seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 50 lakh and arrested two persons in this connection in Odisha’s Puri town on Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons, Puri SP Pinak Mishra said as part of their drive to make the pilgrim town free of banned intoxicating substances, the police had kept a close watch on transportation of contraband and drug dealers.
Following reliable information about a drug deal near Talabania helipad, a team from Sea Beach police station conducted raid on the place. The team arrested two drug peddlers, who have previous police record. But the customers managed to escape.
The arrested persons were identified as Debasish Das alias Babul of Gurujangha in Khurda district and Subham Pattnaik of teak plantation in the town.
The police seized 522 gram of brown sugar, two bikes and two mobile phones from the possession of the drug peddlers. The market value of the seized drugs was estimated to be more than Rs 50 lakh, the SP said.
He further said further investigation was going on to ascertain the source of brown sugar and involvement of others in the illegal trade.
