Brown Sugar Worth Rs 44 Lakh Seized, 3 Persons Including Woman & Her Son Arrested In Puri
Puri: Police have seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 40 lakh and arrested three persons including a woman and her son for peddling the contraband in Odisha’s Puri town.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, additional SP of Puri Sushil Mishra said Baselhi Sahi police station received reliable information about sale of the brown sugar in a place under its jurisdiction and conducted a raid on the day.
During the raid, the police team seized brown sugar weighing 404 gram from the possession of three persons. While the market value of the seized contrband was estimated to be around Rs 44 lakh, the three persons were arrested under NDPS Act, Mishra said.
The arrested persons are Jharana Panda alias Gita Behera, her son Rajesh Panda alias Raja and Durga Panda. They are residents of Gokhasahi under Baselisahi police limits. The police also seized five mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, a Bullet motorcycle and Rs 890 in cash from their possession.
Several cases are already pending against Jharana at Baselisahi and Baliapanda police stations in Puri town, police sources said.
