Siliguri: On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from India exchanged sweets with their Bangladeshi counterparts of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Fulbari border in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri.
This symbolic gesture aimed to foster goodwill and strengthen cooperation between the two border guarding forces, at a time when the political situation in Bangladesh is tense.
Speaking about the tradition, Sunil Kumar, assistant commandant, 18Bn BSF, said: “We do this at every festival to develop a relationship and to strengthen it as well so that we can do our job well by coordinating. We get better results in preventing smuggling and other border crimes by having cordial relations and mutual understanding.”
The exchange of sweets reflects ongoing efforts to maintain peace and improve coordination between the border guarding forces of the two nations. Regular meetings and conferences are held between the BSF and the BGB for better coordination to combat cross-border crime.
Meanwhile, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with joy and unity across India as families and communities gathered to mark the end of Ramzan.
People in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata dressed in festive attire, exchanging warm embraces and traditional greetings. The streets and homes were adorned with decorations, while the aroma of biryani, kebabs, sevai, and sheer khurma filled the air.
Large congregations offered namaz at various mosques and prayer grounds, praying for peace and prosperity. In Agra, a significant number of devotees gathered near the Taj Mahal to offer Eid prayers, reinforcing the festival’s spirit of harmony and togetherness.
