Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major attempt by Pakistan along across the Line of Control (LOC) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night. This happened when Pakistan was carrying out unsuccessful missile and attack drone strikes against several cities in the the Union Territory.
“There was a blackout and sirens were blaring when the infiltration attempt was made. We do not know whether Pakistan was trying to push in regular troops or terrorists. The BSF reacted immediately and forced the would-be infiltrators to flee,” an official said.
According to an X post by BSF, Jammu Frontier, the incident took place around 11:00 pm on May 8, 2025. “Alert troops deployed in the region acted swiftly to prevent unidentified individuals from breaching the border,” the post stated.
While officials have not disclosed further operational details regarding the number of infiltrators or the actual engagement that took place, it is a known fact that Pakistan provides covering fire to terrorists as they cross the LOC into India.
“Pakistan continued to fire artillery shells at civilian targets at Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. This started after the failed missile and drone strike. India retaliated in a proportionate manner. All educational institutions in these four areas will remain closed on Friday as a precautionary measure,” another official said.
India has reacted strongly to Pakistan’s continuing belligerence. After the failed missile and drone strikes on Thursday evening, India is said to have attacked several targets in Pakistan’s Lahore, Karachi and even Islamabad. Explosions were heard around Islamabad and Pakistan prime minister Shehbaz Sharif was moved to an undisclosed location.
The present conflict between India and Pakistan erupted after the gruesome massacre of 26 persons, mostly tourists from across India, at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. Investigations revealed that the horrific terror strike at Pahalgam – the worst against civilians in India after the 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai – was masterminded in Pakistan. At least two Pakistani terrorists were involved in the killings.
Early on Wednesday, Indian Armed Forces launched Op Sindoor, a high-precision missile strike against nine terror establishments inside Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), killing nearly 100 terrorists.
Though no civilian or military locations were targeted by India, Pakistan reacted by shelling civilians along the LOC and sending in drones and missiles. These were neutralised by India’s robust air defence systems before they could reach their targets.
A high alert has now been sounded along all bordering states.
