According to sources, the bus rammed into a stationary truck parked along the road after the driver lost control over the vehicle.

It is the fifth such road mishap involving migrants en-route to Odisha from other states. Kalinga Ghati in Kandhamal saw two accidents within a span of 24 hours, leaving two dead and several injured. The driver of a bus was killed after he rammed the vehicle into a truck on NH-16 near Kuhudi in Khurda district.

Similarly, five persons were injured when a bus carrying migrants from Surat to Ganjam overturned on Nagpur-Amravati National Highway (NH) in Maharashtra. These accidents took place between May 2 and May 5.

On May 6, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that all workers from other states would, henceforth, be brought back only by trains.
