New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) officially released the bypoll results on Monday. The polls were held from June 19 in five constituencies across Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal. The outcomes confirm AAP’s growing strength, BJP’s mixed fortunes, and notable gains for Congress and TMC.
AAP: Expanding Its Footprint
Visavadar (Gujarat): Gopal Italia secured a commanding win by around 17,500 votes, defeating BJP’s Kirit Patel Ludhiana West (Punjab): Sanjeev Arora of AAP clinched the seat with a 10,637-vote margin. Together, these victories mark AAP’s growing appeal beyond its Delhi base.
Congress: Strategic Gain in Kerala
Aryadan Shoukath’s victory with an 11,077-vote margin in Nilambur, where he bagged 77,737 votes against CPI(M)’s 66,660. This is the first bypoll seat gained from LDF since 2021.
BJP holds Kadi but reeling in Visvadar
Rajendra Chavda retained the Kadi seat with an ECI-confirmed margin between 38,000–39,000 votes. Yet, the loss in Visavadar and slipping performance elsewhere suggest areas for internal review.
TMC: Reaffirms Bengal Dominance
Alifa Ahmed (TMC) secured a comfortable win in Kaliganj. ECI trends indicate a lead ranging from 31,000 to nearly 50,000 votes during counting, reaffirming TMC’s regional strength.
Here’s what the victories mean for these parties:
AAP: These two wins signal its rising influence in non-traditional regions.
Congress: The Nilambur win boosts its confidence ahead of Kerala’s 2026 polls.
BJP: Takes comfort in Kadi yet must address performance in urban and semi-urban seats.
TMC: Kaliganj win cements its dominance leading into future state elections.
