Cadet Didn’t Drown, Suffered Seizures After Coming Out Of Pool In Cuttack: NCC

Cuttack: The NCC has refuted media reports that a cadet drowned in a swimming pool during a training session in Odisha’s Cuttack on Saturday.

NCC authorities claimed Cadet Swapneswar Das did not drown in the pool but suffered epileptic seizures after coming out of the pool and collapsed.

An NCC officer was quoted in a media report as saying that Das was rushed to City Hospital after he suffered seizures but was declared dead on arrival.

The officer said the cadet came out of the pool at 11.15 am (Saturday) but after his condition was found unstable, he was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. He might have died due to some pre-existing medical condition, the officer was quoted in the report as saying.

“The cadet completed the training session successfully and came out of the pool but collapsed after suffering seizures. Doctors at City Hospital tried to resuscitate him but failed,” NCC’s Dr Jayanta Panda was quoted in the report as saying.

The authorities are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Das was a student of NSM City College in Cuttack. The incident took place while he was training in the swimming pool of Cuttack Club. His family lives in Raja Bagicha.
