Canal Breach Floods Farmlands In Odisha’s Koraput

Jeypore: Hundreds of acres of farmlands were inundated after a breach in the Upper Kolab main canal on the outskirts of Jeypore town in Koraput district on Friday night.

According to reports, around 60 metres of the embankment collapsed at Ektaguda village between 9 pm and 10 pm. The canal water, however, didn’t enter the village.

Following information, the local MLA and officials from the Water Resources Department rushed to the spot to ispect the damage.

Officials said the repair of the breach is going on in full swing.

The villagers alleged that though the main canal was built in 1975, there has been no proper maintenance by the Water Resources Department. Besides the quality of the repairs done intermittently is of poor quality, they claimed.
