Cancer Care In Odisha: Acharya Harihar PG Institute Of Cancer Gets MRI, CT Scan Facility
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday dedicated MRI and CT Scan services at Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) in Cuttack.
Speaking after the inauguration, Naveen said in the next 2 to 3 years, the state will have sufficient latest facilities for cancer care and people will not have to go to other cities for treatment.
“Patients coming for treatment at Acharya Harihar institute can access these services free-of-cost and they would not depend on the SCB Medical College for these services. This will result in timely and accurate diagnosis leading to early treatment,” he added.
The government is also establishing cancer care facilities across the state. Bargarh Cancer hospital will also be initiated shortly and apart from the district cancer chemo-therapy programme, existing radiotherapy units will be upgraded and new radiotherapy units created in different districts.
The government is also inviting renowned private and charitable organisations engaged in this field to set up facilities in the state. Recently, foundation stone was laid for the state-of-the-art Cancer Care and Palliative Care Centre in Bhubaneswar with philanthropic support and partnerships, he added.
Health Minister Naba Das, Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Souvik Biswal were present on the hospital premises.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health, PK Mohapatra who joined on the virtual platform spoke on different steps taken by the government for treatment of cancer patients. Director of AHPGIC offered the vote of thanks.
