Bhubaneswar: Acting on the directive of Congress president Rahul Gandhi to finalise candidates for the ensuing elections in Odisha by February-end, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has stepped up activities to meet the deadline.
To expedite the candidate selection process, chairperson of AICC Screening Committee for Odisha VD Satheesan and other members of the committee Naushad Solanki will arrive here on Wednesday on a two-day visit.
The OPCC sources said that the two leaders will have a meeting with the party leaders of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Jagatsinghpur before finalising the candidates.
The two members of the screening committee will then visit Koraput and Jeypore, where they will have a meeting with the party leaders including the district presidents and PCC members of the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts. Apart from this, they will also hold a meeting with the party leaders of Berhampur, Aska and other important Assembly constituencies in South Odisha.
After collecting the opinion of the leaders in these districts, the two members will have a meeting with the OPCC members on February 15 to finalise the names.
