Berhampur: Kukudakhandi Tehsildar Dr Ipsita Priyadarshini Mishra in Ganjam district came to the rescue of a brilliant student by issuing OBC certificate to him within 3 hours on a holiday earning appreciation from all quarters.
Bidhu Bhushan Nayak, whose father is a aluminum utensil vendor, cleared the national entrance screening test (NEST) and received the intimation letter for admission from National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar on November 28 (Saturday) at 2 pm. He was asked to furnish a fresh OBC certificate by 2 pm on November 29 (Sunday) failing which he was told that his admission would be cancelled.
Hoping against hope to get the certificate, Bidhu approached Dr Ipsita at 9 am on Sunday. The tehsildar not only gave a patient hearing to his plight but also acted swiftly and issued the other backward caste (OBC) certificate at 12 noon on the same day.
“My family and myself will remain greatly indebted to ‘Madam Tehsildar’ as we had lost the hope for admission into NISER. Getting the OBC certificate in such a short time that too on a government holiday is impossible. But the ‘Madam’ made it possible,” said Bidhu.
He further said when he had enquired in the Jan Seva Kendra, he was informed that it would take minimum 15 days.
“Certificate is the future of a student. There is no holiday in a government service. I have already issued such certificate to many students in short notice and it has already been included in Mo Sarkar,” said Dr Ipsita.
Sudhir Rout, convenor of Forum for Ganjam and also Director of ‘Aryabhatta’ where Bidhu was a student were all praise for the tehsildar. Her action has proved the efficiency and dedication of an administrative officer and also given a shape to the life and career of a poor student, Sudhir said.
