Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the Superintendent of CGST in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday for allegedly taking Rs 50,000 as bribe from the owner of a private company.
The accused, identified as Om Prakash Nayak, had allegedly sought Rs 50,000 as bribe from the firm owner for releasing Rs 16 lakh as GST refund.
Unwilling to pay the bribe amount, the firm owner lodged a complaint with the CBI.
Acting on the complaint, CBI officials laid a trap and the CGST Superintendent was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The CBI registered a case in this regard and arrested the accused. Further investigation is in progress.
