CBI Team Nabs GST Superintendent Accepting Rs 20K Bribe In Odisha’s Rourkela
Rourkela: A CBI team from Bhubaneswar on Thursday apprehended Superintendent of GST, Rourkela, Amarkant Kumar while allegedly receiving Rs 20,000 bribe.
According to a CBI release, he had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from one Aditya Kumar Nayak, proprietor of a firm, for correcting the erroneously fixed GST liability of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh. He agreed to receive Rs 20,000 as the first instalment of the total bribe money on Thursday.
After verifying Nayak’s complaint, the agency registered a case against the superintendent under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act (amendment), 2018, and laid a trap to nab him. He was caught red-handed with the bribe money at his office at Civil Township here.
Subsequently, searches were conducted at his residence in Rourkela.
The accused will be produced before Special CBI Judge court, Bhubaneswar, on Friday, the release added.
