Bhubaneswar: In the wake of diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur, the Central government is set to send a 14-member team of experts to assess the ground situation in the district.
Sharing this information, Public Health Director Dr Nilakantha Mishra told reporters on Saturday that the Central team is expected to visit the affected areas on Sunday to study the situation and suggest measures to prevent further spread.
He said a joint team of officials from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Odisha Health Department is already closely monitoring the situation.
Giving an update on the examination of samples collected from the district, Mishra said that of the 200 samples collected, eleven have tested positive for vibrio cholerae. However, there has been no largescale spread of cholera and the cases have not been reported from any particular cluster.
Following coordinated efforts of the district administration and health officials, the number of new cases has not seen a significant increase.
Similarly, most of the previously admitted patients have been discharged and are recovering at home. Additionally, the inflow of patients from the Korei, Jajpur Road, and Dharmasala blocks has notably declined, he said.
At present, 213 patients are undergoing treatment for diarrhoea at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). A special control room has been established at the hospital to facilitate round-the-clock monitoring of the situation.
