Bhubaneswar: Addressing concerns of students and uncertainty prevailing across the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday allowed the conduct of end-of-term examinations by the universities and institutions.
The Union Higher Education secretary, however, made it clear that the final-term exams will have to be conducted with adherence to the guidelines of Universities Grants Commission (UGC) on examinations and academic calendar for the universities, and as per the standard operating procedure approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
The UGC is expected to release a new academic calendar and revised guidelines for the examinations very soon.
It may be mentioned that Human Resource Development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, in a tweet on Sunday, had asked the UGC to “revisit” the academic calendar and guidelines released in April, saying that the foundation for revisited guidelines will be “health and safety students, teachers, and staff.”
States like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Haryana have already cancelled all higher education examinations and decided to promote students on the basis of previous performances.
