New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday cleared a proposal for laying a third railway track between Bhadrakh and Narayangarh in West Bengal at a cost of 1866.31 crore.
The proposal was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project is expected to be completed by 2023-24.
The third line had become necessary in view of the exponential growth in rail traffic in this corridor. The capacity utilisation in this section at present is 138 per cent.
The construction of the 155 km track will help generate the additional optimum capacity to cope up with the existing as well as additional traffic, said a government statement.
Besides, it will help generate direct employment for about 37.3 lakh man-days, it added.
