Bhubaneswar: The Central government has exempted the coal block allotted to Vedanta Limited in Odisha from the provisions pertaining to the employment of contract labour employed in its Jamkhani Coal Mines for a period of three years.
The coal mine granted exemption is located in Bileimunda area of Sundargarh district in Odisha.
The ministry of Labour and Employment issued a notification on April 29 in this regard, sources said.
As per the notification, this three-year exemption has been given by the Centre in exercise of the powers conferred by section 31 of the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970.
The decision was taken after consultation with the Central Advisory Contract Labour Board and will be subject to certain conditions including protection of the interest of the workmen engaged in the above works.
The exemption aims to facilitate operations at the Vedanta Coal block while ensuring worker welfare and adherence to certain labour standards.
