Puri: Local artists Saswat Ranjan Sahoo and Suryakanta Das have created models of Lord Jagannath and ‘Nanda’ with matchsticks and paper, respectively, ahead of Chandan Yatra.
Saswat has used 2,120 matchsticks to make ‘Nanda’, whose length is 24 inches and width 19 inches. It took him four days to prepare this model.
‘Nanda’ is used in the annual Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings. The yatra will begin on May 15 amidst tight security arrangements during the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
“Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chandan Yatra will be celebrated as per government guidelines. Devotees won’t get to see the festival directly. Therefore, I have prepared a matchstick craft of Nanda,” said Saswat.
