CHEMCON-2021: Dumping Of Chemical Poison Unlikely In Odisha, Says Governor
Bhubaneswar: Crores of tonne of garbage and poison have been dumped on the mother earth. But it may not happen in Odisha as all care is being taken, said Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal.
Speaking at the concluding day function of Engineering Congress (CHEMCON-2021) and the 74th annual session of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), here on Thursday, the Governor said, “To escape the challenges and the problems which the world is facing today phenomenally, the togetherness of man and the nature is highly important. Hopefully, with the standard of living we don’t lose standard of life.”
He also expressed his happiness that IMMT organised the international-level event in Odisha which is known for its rich mineral resources.
Hemant Sharma, principal secretary, Industries department said, “CHEMCON is not only important for the industry and academia but also for a state like Odisha. Odisha is the largest producer of iron ore and steel and we are pro-actively working on industrialisation”.
The theme of the conference was “Sustainable Utilisation of Resources for Chemical & Mineral Sectors” that focused on providing a forum for substantial discussion on the availability and utilization of mineral resources using the existing and emerging technologies.
Prof Suddhasatwa Basu, Director, CSIR-IMMT and Chairman of Local Organising Committee and Prof MK Jha, president, IIChE spoke at the event.
CHEMCON-2021 featured a host of events, which included 5 plenary lectures, 15 lectures from the CHEMCON speakers. Two International Symposiums such as the Indo-Canada Symposium on “Clean Energy” and the Indo-South Africa Symposium on “Clean Coal Technology” were conducted.
Around 280 oral presentations and 105 poster presentations concerning various aspects of chemicals, petrochemicals, environment, polymer, bioengineering and mineral processing were made. More than 900 delegates participated in hybrid mode.
The four-day event at CSIR- Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IIMT), Bhubaneswar was organised by IIChE-Bhubaneswar Regional Centre and CSIR- IMMT Bhubaneswar along with the Institute of Chemical Technology-Indian Oil Odisha Campus, Bhubaneswar.
