Chhattisgarh Naxal Attack: 2 More Odisha Districts On High Alert

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to be in a state of high alert following the recent Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh in which ten police personnel and another were killed.

While three districts had earlier been put on high alert soon after the incident on April 26, two more districts have now been put on alert as a precautionary measure.

A high alert had been sounded earlier in Malkangari, Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts. In order to prevent any untoward incident and entry of Maoists, a high alert has now also been sounded in Bargarh and Kalahandi districts bordering Chhattisgarh.

According to ADG (Operations) Amitabh Thakur, the alert has been sounded in Bargarh and Kalahandi districts as well as it has been observed that around 90 per cent of the Maoists enter Odisha from Chhattisgarh.

The focus of Odisha police has always been on ensuring that the ingress of Maoists is checked. Alert has been issued for the bordering districts of Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Bargarh and Kalahandi, he said.

The police officials in the districts concerned have been instructed to intensify area dominance exercises which is currently underway. Combing operations have also been stepped up in border areas.

Efforts are also on to bring back the red rebels to the social mainstream in accordance with the Odisha government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, he added.
