Berhampur: A day after eight Odia labourers were killed in a road accident in Chhattisgarh, their bodies were brought back to their native villages in Ganjam district on Sunday.
The deceased labourers were identified as Narayan Guru (26) of Chancharapalli in Belaguntha block, Susant Swain (36) of Baghuapalli in Belaguntha block, Samir Mahankud (17) of Sundarpur in Chhatrapur block, Judhistir Nayak (24) of Kandivali in Aska block, Biswanath Gouda (54) of Ghatakuri in Aska block, Kailash Pradhan (36) of Badiambi in Hinjilikatu block, Tapan Nayak (20) and Bilu Dakua (45) of Bibhutia in Sorada block.
Meanwhile, five injured labourers are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Raipur. They are Chitra Swain (22) of Belaguntha block, Sanyasi Jadav (42) and Babu Nayak (9) of Athagarh village in Kabisurya Nagar block, Bulu Swain (33) of Dhabalapur village in Seragada block and Tukuna Jena (30) of Kharaputi village in Belaguntha block.
According to police, 67 labourers from Ganjam district had left for Surat in a private bus, Sivansh (NL-03B-0987), on Friday. On the way, the bus collided head-on with a speeding truck at Cheri Khedi near Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
