New Delhi: The Chief Justice of India (CJI) observed on Thursday that petitions are being filed for ‘everything under the sun’ and wondered why even pleas on political issues are brought to the court instead of relief being sought from the Government.
Responding to a request for urgent listing of a PIL seeking deportation of illegal immigrants, CJI NV Ramana told Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay: “Mr Upadhyay, everyday I have to hear your case only, all the problems under the sun, Parliament members’ issue, nomination issue, election reforms, etc. These are all political issues, you go to the government.”
Justice Ramana further said: “If I agree all your matters to be taken up and orders that are sought have to be passed, what purpose are political representatives elected for? The Lok Sabha… the Rajya Sabha… there are bills we have to pass?”
The apex court, in January 2018, had directed that the PIL be tagged with another petition filed by two Rohingya refugees and directed that a copy be served to the Central government counsel, LiveLaw.in reported.
The Rohingya duo had moved court after Ministry of Home Affairs issued a letter to Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territory administrations advising them to “sensitise all law enforcement and intelligence agencies for taking prompt steps and initiating deportation processes”.
