Bhubaneswar: A new guest arrived at the Nandankanan Zoological Park located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The zoo’s seven-year-old chimpanzee ‘Durga’, a major attraction for tourists, has given birth to a baby.
Durga became a mother following a 238-day pregnancy after mating with the male chimpanzee ‘Julu’. This marks Durga’s first experience as a mother.
Unfortunately, Julu, the oldest chimpanzee at Nandankanan, passed away due to age-related ailments on December 30, 2024.
Durga and her baby have now been kept in a special enclosure. Special attention is being paid to the mother and baby.
With the birth of this infant, the number of chimpanzees in the Nandankanan Zoo has increased to eight.
