Bhubaneswar: The Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026, organised by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has reached Odisha as part of its nationwide expedition to raise awareness about coastal security and national unity.

The Cyclothon, flagged off virtually by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai from New Delhi, is covering India’s entire mainland coastline over 25 days, and Odisha has emerged as a key stop in this historic journey.

The eastern team of CISF cyclists, which began its ride from Bakkhali in West Bengal, is now traversing Odisha’s coastal belt. Their route includes significant stops at Konark and Paradip, highlighting the state’s strategic importance in India’s maritime security framework. Odisha’s coastline, dotted with ports and fishing communities, plays a vital role in trade, industry, and national security, making the Cyclothon’s presence here especially meaningful.

A total of 130 CISF personnel, including 65 women, are participating in the expedition. Their arrival in Odisha showcases the inclusivity and resilience of the force, while also engaging local communities in discussions around vigilance and cooperation against threats such as smuggling, infiltration, and illegal trade. The cyclists underwent rigorous training in endurance, nutrition, and safety, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demanding journey.

The Cyclothon’s theme, “Surakshit Tat, Samridh Bharat” (Secure Coasts, Prosperous India), resonates strongly in Odisha, where ports like Paradip are central to the state’s economic growth and India’s energy security. By interacting with coastal communities, especially fishermen, CISF aims to strengthen partnerships and encourage active participation in safeguarding the nation’s maritime frontiers

Beyond security, the Cyclothon also celebrates Odisha’s rich maritime heritage and cultural traditions. The stop at Konark, home to the iconic Sun Temple, symbolises the blending of history, heritage, and modern national responsibility. The initiative further promotes fitness, discipline, and healthy lifestyles among youth and coastal residents, inspiring them to contribute to a safer and stronger India.

As the Cyclothon continues its journey through Odisha, it reinforces the state’s pivotal role in India’s coastal security network and highlights the collective spirit of vigilance, unity, and pride embodied in the call of Vande Mataram.
