Civic Body Collects Fine Of Over Rs 6 lakh In Three Months For Violation Of COVID-19 Guidelines In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Acting tough on people violating the mandatory COVID-19 norms, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) levied fines of Rs 6,10,190 on the violators in just over three months from April 24-July 29 under its jurisdiction.
BMC imposed fines for violating the norms of social distancing, littering in public places and not using face masks. It was learnt that the BMC officials levied a fine of Rs 47,000 from July 24-28.
According to information received from a BMC official, the civic body’s Central Enforcement Team, the Commissionerate of Police and the Zonal Enforcement Team are conducting checks in different localities and collecting penalties from the violators.
In South East Zone, a fines of Rs 2,000 have been levied for not wearing masks and Rs 3,000 for littering in public places.
Similarly, in the North Zone, fines of Rs 2,000 have been levied for not wearing masks and Rs 1,000 for littering in public places. It will continue in the coming days too, the BMC official said.
Notably, the state government has made it mandatory for all people to wear face masks of any type while going out of their houses for any purpose.
