New Delhi: Supreme Court proceedings may soon be telecast live.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Ramana informed on Thursday that he was actively considering the proposal of live telecast of the apex court’s proceedings.
The CJI, however, said that he would seek general consensus among his colleagues before approving the proposal, The Indian Express reported.
Speaking at the launch of application to grant access of virtual proceedings of Supreme Court to mediapersons, Ramana recalled his days as a journalist. That was when he came to know about the great challenges the media faces in reporting and how journalists depend on advocates to get links to cover court proceedings.
So there was the need to create a mechanism through which journalists could attend court hearings, he said.
