Bhubaneswar: A Class-X student died after being electrocuted while lowering the National Flag following the Republic Day celebration at a private coaching centre in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday.
Sources said the incident took place at Samagol area under the jurisdiction of Kujang police in the district.
The boy, identified as Omm Prakash Dwivedy, was staying at his maternal uncle’s house at and attending classes at a private coaching centre.
Locals said the students of the coaching centre celebrated the Republic Day atop the building roof and unfurled the tricolour in morning using a metal pipe. The boy got electrocuted while lowering the flag in the evening.
Preliminary findings suggested that the metal pipe accidentally came in contact with live wires while the student was lowering the flag.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the police detained the owner of the private coaching centre and launched an investigation into the incident.
