Bhubaneswar: Odia film actor Ashrumochan Mohanty had a narrow escape after his car plunged into a canal near Kalajhari on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar early on Saturday.
The actor managed to move out of the vehicle to safety after the car fell into the Daya West Canal in the wee hours
As per preliminary information, the actor’s vehicle veered off the road and fell into the canal after he reportedly tries to avoid a stray dog that suddenly appeared in front of the car.
After witnessing the incident, local residents informed the police and helped the actor out of the vehicle. Locals said a major disaster was averted as there was very little water in the canal when the accident took place.
Sources said Mohanty, known for his contributions to Odia cinema, was returning to his Kalarahang residence after a late-night shoot in Cuttack when the mishap occurred.
Mohanty reportedly sustained only minor injuries and was declared safe after preliminary medical examination.
Eyewitnesses said the car lost balance as the driver attempted to steer away from the animal and crashed into the canal embankment before sliding down.
