Patna: It was a close shave for RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. He narrowly escaped injury when a speeding truck rammed into his convoy in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Saturday. Three of his security personnel sustained injuries. The incident occurred around 12:30 am on the Patna-Muzaffarpur National Highway near Goraul. Yadav’s convoy had halted for a tea break when the truck rammed the vehicle.
“We were returning from a program in Madhepura and had stopped to have tea. While we were stopped, a truck lost balance and crashed into 2-3 vehicles right in front of me,” Yadav said, as quoted by India Today.
“Our security personnel were standing there, the truck hit them. Around 2–3 people were injured. The accident happened just five feet away from me. If it had gone slightly more off balance, it could have hit us too,” he added.
The truck was intercepted at a nearby toll plaza by local authorities. Yadav called for strict action against those responsible.
Vaishali SP Lalit Mohan Sharma said three policemen, two from Tejashwi Yadav’s convoy and one from the district police, were injured. While two of the injured are being treated at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the third one is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Hajipur.
Probe is underway.
