Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday congratulated the Indian women’s hockey team on winning the silver medal in the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.
The team made it to the final of the Asian Games after a gap of 20 years.
In recognition of the achievements of the players from Odisha in the Indian women’s hockey team, the Chief Minister announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore each to Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka as per the revised policy, a release from the CMO said.
They were in the women’s squad that won the silver.
Odisha is the sponsor of the Indian national hockey teams. Bhubaneswar will also be hosting the Men’s Hockey World Cup later this year.
Additionally, the coach will get an award equivalent to 20 per cent of the reward for Asian Games medal winners, the release added.
