Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday welcomed and felicitated four players from Odisha, Who were part of the Indian team which lifted the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind trophy.

Majhi also presented each of the four players – Phula Soren from Balasore and Parvati Marndi, Yamuna Rani Tudu, and Basanti Hansda from Mayurbhanj – with a cheque of Rs 11 lakh.

Praising the players’ strong determination and outstanding performance, the Chief Minister said that through their dedication and perseverance, they have brought glory to both the country and the state. He stated that they have become an inspiration for every Odia and advised the players to continue this victorious journey with full confidence.

Minister for Sports & Youth Services Suryabanshi Suraj, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Sports & Youth Services Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Director Dr Yedula Vijay, team coach Debashish Jena, and other senior officials were present

The world champions earlier received a rousing welcome at Biju Patnaik International Airport here on their return to the state.

India, led by Deepika TC, defeated Nepal by 7 wickets in the final at Colombo on November 23 to be crowned champions. To their credit, the Indian team remained unbeaten in the tournament.

The team had called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday and presented her President with an autographed cricket bat. The President congratulated the team members on winning the T20 World Cup and said their success would inspire others to scale new heights in their lives and careers. The President also signed a cricket ball presented by the team on the occasion.

The team also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi last Thursday.
