Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over loss of lives in natural calamities, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday wrote to Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan urging him to expedite installation of two more Doppler weather radars at Sambalpur and Balasore.
In 2006, the Centre had decided to install four such radars in odisha. However, only two have been installed and made operational at Paradip and Gopalpur.
“I once again request you to kindly intervene in the matter and issue appropriate instructions for procurement and installation of radars at Balasore and Sambalpur at the earliest,” Naveen said in the letter.
These two stations would help, among others, in tracking local storms/thunderstorms in the Northern and Western parts of the state and provide near real-time forecast to save many lives, he added.
