Bhubaneswar: Most parts of interior Odisha came under the grip of a cold wave on Tuesday as the night temperature came down to 15 Degree Celsius and below in 12 places.
While Daringbadi in Kandhamal district recorded the lowest temperature at 9°C, the mercury remained at 15 and below in Sonepur (11.4), Phulbani (11), Koraput (14), Bhawanipatna (13.6), Talcher (12.5), Keonjhar (12.4), Jharsuguda (13.8), Baripada (12), Angul (11.6), Cuttack (14.5) and Chandbali (14.8).
Briefing the media, duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar Ajay Nayak said that there will be heavy rainfall at one or two places over the south Odisha districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati in the next 48 hours under the influence of a deep depression which has intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘Nivar’. The cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours and cross Puducherry and Tamil Nadu coast in the next 12 hours. The weather in the remaining parts of Odisha will remain dry.
He said the minimum night temperature in Odisha will fall by 1-2 °C during the next 24 hours and by 3-4°C in north Odisha and by 2-3°C in south Odisha.
