Cold Wave Returns To Odisha, No Respite From Chill Till Jan 19

Bhubaneswar: After a gap of nearly two weeks, a fresh cold wave gripped Odisha, especially in the interior districts, on Friday.

The night temperature fell below 10°C in four places on Friday with Phulbani being the coldest at 6°C, followed by Jharsuguda (7.4), Daringbadi (8.5) and Sundargarh (9), according to a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday morning.

Apart from this, the mercury remained below 15°C in Angul (11.6), Keonjhar (11.6), Sambalpur (11), Hirakud (12.1), Talcher (14.6), Bhawanipatna (10.4), Balangir (10), Koraput (13), Titlagarh (11), Sonepur (10.6), Nayagarh (14) and Boudh (10.5).

The IMD predicted that the night temperature will fall by 3-4° C in the interior districts during the next three days and by 2-3° C at several places in rest of the state during the next two days.

The cold wave condition will prevail in the state till January 19 after which there will be a gradual rise in night temperature, it added.

In view of a yellow warning for intense cold wave issued by the IMD, the Special Relief Commissioner’s office has alerted the collectors of the interior districts to take adequate measures to ensure the health and safety of people.
