Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital recorded the season’s lowest temperature of 13°C on Sunday morning with the night-time reading 6.4 notches below normal, amid the continuing cold wave.
Bhubaneswar had recorded 14.8°C the previous day.
The state capital witnessed its first cold wave spell this season on Friday when the minimum night temperature dropped below normal by 4.6°C to record 14.8°C.
Interestingly, Bhubaneswar had recorded its all-time lowest minimum temperature this month at 9.7°C on November 30, 1970, followed by 10.9°C on November 26, 1968.
The night temperature also touched 13.4°C, 5.3°C below normal, in the neighbouring Cuttack, in the last 24 hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), G Udayagiri was the coldest places in the state at 5.8°C, followed by Semiluguda in Koraput at 7.4°C, Daringbadi at 8°C and Phulbani at 9°C, which was 4.6°C below normal.
Angul at 10.6°C saw the highest drop of 7.2°C from normal.
Other place where the mercury plummeted below 15°C are Rourkela 10.2°C, Jharsuguda 10.6°C, Keonjhar 10.8°C, Chipilima in Bargarh 11°C, Bhawanipatna 11.4°C, Koraput 11.5°C, Nabarangpur 11.6°C, Dhenkanal 12.3°C, Sundargarh 12.4°C, Sonepur 13°C, Balangir 13.2°C, Mahisapata in Dhenkanal 13.4°C, Ranital in Bhadrak 13.6°C, Baripada 13.8°C, Sambalpur and Titlagarh at 14.2°C each and Rayagada 14.4°C.
Dense fog was also seen in Rourkela, which reduced visibility to less than 200 metres.
The weather agency has predicted a rise in the night temperature by 2-3°C after two days.
